Oakland Future Trio

Oakland Future Trio (OFT) is comprised of Ari Carpenter on bass, Caleb Sankoh on keys, and Mikhi Woodley on drums. Oakland Future Trio plays classical standards creatively infusing a unique timbre that could only be derived from being raised in the culturally and socially diverse metropolis of Oakland.

The three formed OFT at the age of 12, passionately honing their craft under the direction of their teacher Randy Porter as members of the Westlake Jazz Combo.

In the summer of 2013 Oakland Future Trio was featured in the Oakland Unified Public School District (OUSD) video, I’m an Oakland School Kid playing their instruments to the Rhianna inspired song. In 2014 OFT had the privilege of opening the Elevate Oakland benefit concert at the special invitation of world-renown percussionist Sheila E. The awe-inspiring performance closed with a duet with rapper and classical pianist, Kev Choice. Oakland Future Trio has also shared the stage with Portugal the Man and Grammy award winning artists, Pete Escovedo and D'Wayne Wiggins.

Oakland Future Trio has performed at various venues around the Bay Area including Yoshi’s, The Addition, the Regency Ballroom, and their home base Studio Grand. They have also performed at the Oakland First Friday’s Holiday Show, Oakland Drops Beats Festival, Rockridge Out and About Festival, and are regularly featured with the Oakland Freedom Jazz Society.
