Acquiring its name from the sixth principle of Kwaanza which stands for creativity, the sf|noir Kuumba Award for Excellence in the Arts recognizes an artist who has contributed a significant amount to the African American arts landscape in the Bay Area. A torchbearer, pushing the envelope and consistently driving toward excellence within their work and making an indelible mark and contribution to arts and culture.

sf|noir believes it is important to honor those who are achieving excellence, fostering innovation, teaching others and those with a long track record of arts-related activity in our community.
